Reconstruction Video

Today in class, we watched Part 1 of the series "Reconstruction: America After the Civil War." This video covered the start of the Reconstruction Era after the war. That means the end of slavery, violence, and the 14th Amendment. So, in this blog, I will be going over what I thought was interesting, one thing that I thought was bad that came out of the Reconstruction, and something that I thought was good that came out of the Reconstruction.

So the first thing that I wanted to talk about was something that I found to be interesting. The thing that I found to be interesting from the "Reconstruction; America After the Civil War" video was that in video was that President Johnson was the first ever President of the United States of America to be sworn into office at a hotel. The reason why I thought that this was so interesting was because you do not ever hear of a President being sworn in at a hotel. This is because normally, the President gets sworn in at the same place every four years. So to hear that Mr. Johnson did not get sworn into office at the normal type of place, but in a hotel, is so crazy to me.

The next thing that I wanted to talk about was the thing that I thought was bad about the Reconstruction. One of the things that I thought was bad that came from the Reconstruction was the making of the Ku Klux Klan, also known as the KKK. I mean, the fact that the KKK is even a thing is so disgusting and makes me want to throw up. Lastly, something that I thought was good about the Reconstruction was that slavery ended, the 14th Amendment was created, and African Americans were able to vote.
